On this day, 2 October 1971: Knockout
Cover artwork: Reg Parlett (The Full House)
On this day, 2 October 1971 … Trying to decorate one’s house in October isn’t advisable, but it makes for some good front-page gags for the family of The Full House. This strip was a regular on the cover of Knockout in the comic’s early days and was always based within the neat design of an open-fronted, two-up, two-down house in which the family members each had their own room and never directly interacted with each other.
There are pursuits of a more outdoorsy nature elsewhere in this week’s issue, the insufferable neighbours of Beat Your Neighbour go mountain climbing, some sporty rotter nicks a branch from The Haunted Wood to make himself a tennis racket, The Toffs and the Toughs try water-skiing, The Super Seven go wild in the country and Boney scares the crows. Pete of Pete’s Pockets is stuck indoors on vacuum chore duty, and I reckon there would have been a few sniggers in the Knockout office when artist Mike Lacey delivered his pictures of Pete with his trunk out.
