On this day, 30 January 1982: Jackpot
On this day, 30 January 1982 … Contrary to appearances, this isn’t a festive issue of Jackpot. The rather misleading cover trails a photo-feature about the day Jackpot’s final competition winner spent dressed as Santa, delivering boxes of Suchard chocs to the old people of Luton. A happy day for the old folk, and for young Barry Williams himself, but bitter-sweet as his moments in the spotlight were not only hidden behind a thick fake beard but also overshadowed by the announcement that this was to be the 141st and very last issue of this much loved and missed comic.
