I’ve mentioned previously that I reckon Sally – which ran from June 1969 to March 1971 – had a distinctly 1960s feel about it, in design and the tone of its stories, so it was interesting to read (in the comments to this Resource on Jinty post) that the comic was in development for much of the Sixties decade – in fact, it produced a mock-up issue as early as 1960! So it’s something of an anomaly for this Seventies/Eighties blog, but a very welcome one and always a pleasure to read.
This first issue sets out Sally’s aim of being ‘a comic for the adventurous’, and presents the origins stories of sci-fi gems The Girl from Tomorrow and Tiny Tania in Space, superhero tales The Cat Girl and The Justice of Justine, thriller Legion of Super Slaves, wartime saga Daddy Come Home and the comedy adventures of Farm Boss Fanny, The Castle Kids and the Very Important Cow, Maisie’s Magic Eye (which, with its subtitle ‘One look from her and you’re under the ‘fluence’, would make a great name for a beer) and 4 on the Road.
