‘You no play in the World Cup Finals now, Roy Race!’

Racey and the Melchester lads were in the Group of Death, Basran, in the summer of 86.

The Basran hostage drama was one of Roy of the Rovers’ most audacious - and tragic - episodes. The astonishing storyline, which concluded with the death of several members of the Rovers squad, was made even more bizarre by the team wearing their kits throughout. Tom Tully was the writer, David Sque the artist and Barrie Tomlinson the legendary editor.
